Summer Updates from the Eboard
Lexy White
What's up, it's Lexy. I've been Cali dreaming all summer long and it's been AMAZING. It's really hard to just move across the country, especially when you go to call your parents after work but they're asleep because you're 3 hours behind. I was a little nervous at first, worried that I wouldn't like LA but that's why we put hard time stamps on these things, right? Well I've loved LA. The weather is amazing, I've never been so tan in my life. Also there's very little humidity here and as someone with intensely curly hair, that is a true blessing. I live in North Hollywood but work in Santa Monica. The traffic makes me want to die but the view is truly stunning.
I'm working at Starz in their digital team. I can't talk too much about what I do because I'm working on a bunch of stuff that hasn't aired yet / been posted yet and I can't give away any spoilers cause I'm not trying to get #Fired. I received this opportunity through the TV Academy Foundation (aka the Emmys) and it has been one of the most fulfilling programs I've been a part of. I get to meet be exposed to badass women at academy events, such as the one last night at HBO where we talked with the EVP of production and went in depth on Game of Thrones. In addition to these events, Starz puts on panels and events for the interns.
Don't get me wrong, it isn't all rainbows and sunshine everyday but each day I meet new people that I adore and learn something new or be exposed to a new opportunity. I'm learning SO MUCH but sometimes it doesn't feel like work just because the weather is so nice, it's like being on vacation. I've obviously hit up a few Dodgers game while always reppin' my Yankees hat. I've hiked, drank, eaten AMAZING food, karaoked, beached, and everything in between. The work is inclusive and rewarding, the sun is literally always shining, and I have free air conditioning. What more could a girl want? I am a little uspet because I have just under 3 weeks left and not one hot actor or LA dodgers player has proposed but I have faith I can make it happen before I leave. That's it for now. Peace, Love, Gap. - Lex

This summer, I have been busy busy busy. Managing a restaurant is not super easy but, the staff within makes it all worth it. I had the pleasure of sunfirming a new built team of caterers and was privileged with creating the name “Simplicite Caterers”. I’ve been working endlessly to ensure great quality catering for weddings, private parties, and so much more and it really has opened my eyes to how important communication is with your networks. On my days off you’ll find me at the beach or on a boat not using sunscreen or in town waiting for the sunsets.

Hi from NYC! This summer, I moved to Brooklyn to intern at two fabulous companies doing something I’ve never done before: Public Relations! As a TV-R major, I knew nothing about PR going into my first days of my internships, but I’ve come to really enjoy it. Two days a week, I’m working at the Brooks Group PR firm. It’s a small office of all women (badass!) where I get to work with incredible clients like Guy Fieri, Andrew Zimmern, and Alex Guarnaschelli. On the other three days, I work in the Corporate Communications and Brand PR department at the Meredith Corporation in the Financial District. There, I’ve been working with incredible brands like Real Simple, Food & Wine, and Eating Well. Through both, I’ve gotten to attend amazing events, like a private event for Martha Stewart and a benefit at Rockefeller Center. It’s been a busy summer, but it’s been beyond fulfilling.

This summer I have an internship at RainmakerThinkning, a company that essentially helps other companies manage their employees. They want to do research on which factors Generation Z finds most important in a job. So, my fellow interns and I have gone out to some popular GenZ locations (beaches, malls, music festivals, etc.) to ask 16-23 year olds to fill out surveys. Along with that, we’re creating a mini documentary by interviewing GenZ-ers and asking them about what they would want in a dream job. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s a lot of fun! I’ll be getting a break from work starting next week when my family and I go to Baltimore and Ocean City, MD. And then the following week I’ll be going to Disney World with my roommate!!! Not a bad summer at all.

This summer, I’m interning at NBC Connecticut, a local news station in West Hartford, CT. I’ve gotten the chance to go out on stories with reporters, write anchor scripts, stack shows, and volunteer in the community with the NBC CT team. Before the news internship started, I had the opportunity to work as Production Support for the Golf Channel for the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Division 1 Golf Championships in Stillwater, OK. It was so much fun to travel and work with my former boss from the Olympics, who has been a great supporter of encouraging women to work in sports production roles. In the meantime, I’ve been working as a caterer and taking weekend trips with my friends from home!

I focused on learning and improving myself this summer for the upcoming school year. In order to stay productive this summer, I decided to set and accomplish a new goal every day ranging in various categories from learning how to do standing back tuck to making a four-course meal with six random ingredients. In addition to completing these crazy goals, I have also created new graphics and a new logo for ICTV's Ithakids while working on marketing and editing my web series, "College" which focuses on the experiences of Cornell and Ithaca College's students of color at a predominately white institution.

It’s already July?? The summer is flying by!! This summer I have been busy busy busy. I am home, and basically living on the St. Lawrence River. I am able to do that through my internship, which is for a nonprofit organization called “Save the River”. It’s an incredible organization that focuses ensuring a healthy natural river for generations to come. I’ve grown up on this river and it’s amazing to see people in action, working to protect it. At my internship I manage their storefront, help run a water sampling program, and have designed graphics for different events and our membership campaign. I am also working a few other jobs which has been nothing but rewarding. In my free time you can catch me sleeping, or at my cottage in (oh) Canada. (Yes… I actually live that close to Canada). Anyways, catch ya on the flippity flip!
